WEST HIGH NAMED DEMONSTRATION CENTER FOR THE
PRESIDENT’S CHALLENGE West High School in
Davenport has been recognized as a Demonstration
Center for the President’s Challenge, a program that
promotes the importance of keeping students fit and
active. Dr. Ed Thomas, with the President’ Challenge
program, will present the recognition at a special
ceremony at West High on Thursday, May 25, at 9:30
a.m. West has been named a Demonstration Center
because of its all-school emphasis on physical
activity and fitness. Typically, a Demonstration
Center school encourages periodic health appraisals
for all students, designs programs to help students
increase their daily physical activity, monitors and
motivates student progress, and promotes its
physical education program both internally and
externally. In addition to having desirable physical
education programs, Demonstration Center schools are
open for other interested teachers, administrators,
and parents to observe their program. In addition
to being seen as having a desirable physical
education program, West is also open for other
teachers, administrators, parents and interested
parties to observe their program. There are very few
other schools across the state that have been
designated as Demonstration Centers.
