TWO-DAY JUMP SUCCESS PROGRAM GIVES STUDENTS A
HEAD START
The transition from middle school to high school
can be a challenging time for students – especially
for those minority students who may have struggled
during their middle school experience. With support
from a grant, the Davenport Community Schools is
hosting a special two-day JUMP Success Program at
all three district high schools for a target group
of students.
This “head start” on the school year will feature
the basics like school tours, an opportunity to find
and open your locker, special orientation on the
‘ins and outs’ of high school life and a chance to
meet some new friends. The program also provides
special help with math and reading study tips, a new
school planner for every student and an assigned
school ambassador to support them throughout the
school year. Each student also receives a backpack
filled with school supplies.
The JUMP Success program is today and Friday and
West High School from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. both
days, on August 15 and 16 at North High from 8:30
a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the 15th and from
1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the 16th (day will
end with a cook-out), and on August 18 and 19 at
Central from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. both days. It
is expected that approximately 30 to 40 students
will participate at each site.
